1. GMI Engineering & Management Institute became Kettering University on January 1, 1998 in recognition of the special role Charles F. (Boss) Kettering had in the establishment of the college in 1919 and throughout its formative years as GMI.
2. The name Kettering has been synonymous with cooperative education since the early twentieth century. Co-op experience is integral to the education of all Kettering University students.

1. Each student is required to take a Cooperative Education Seminar prior to each Co-op. The course prepares them for the Co-op assignment.
2. The first professional Engineering Degree is the Master of Engineering. Active Chapters of NSBE, AICHE, IIE, ASK, SWE, ASCE, ASME, AWRA, ACM, IEEE & NSPE are available.
